Claude code skills demystified - part 2

In this video will go over skill vs command and plan mode in Claude code

Transcript

Should I create a skill or a command for my repetitive task? If you want to invoke it yourself, create a command. If you want Claude Code to fire it automatically, create a skill instead.

A skill is not free. Its description sits in context every session. So, Claude Code could decide whether it should auto invoke it.

Should I switch to plan mode to help Claude Code invoke certain skills I added, like brainstorming? No. Plan mode doesn't control what skill is invoked.

Claude Code invokes a skill whose description best matches your task, disregarding the plan mode. Vice versa. Certain skill can instruct Claude Code to switch to plan mode.
