I let Claude Code make my kids' Yoto fairytale cards

Free fairytales → Yoto cards, without losing an evening to it. Claude Code splits each tale into chapters of 7 minutes max (using ffmpeg), cutting only in the silences, then builds the playlist in MYO Studio with the right icons and chapter numbers. AI should do the boring work so we get the time with our kids.

Summary

My kids love their Yoto player: they pick a card, press play, no screen. Turning free fairy tales into Make Your Own cards is the boring part, so I handed it to Claude Code. The audio is real recordings; the AI only does the splitting and the playlist busywork.

  • •Long tales don't work well as one track, so each one gets cut into chapters of 7 minutes max.
  • •The cuts land only in moments of silence, so no word gets clipped mid-sentence. Claude Code finds the pauses and runs ffmpeg to do the cutting.
  • •Then it builds the playlist in the MYO Studio web app (myostudio.app) through browser automation: it uploads every part, puts the tale's icon on its first chapter and numbers 2, 3… on the rest.
  • •Doing this by hand in the official Yoto app takes an evening. Now it's a folder of MP3s in, a finished card out.
  • •Both steps are packaged as free Claude Code skills on GitHub (pavelbely/yoto-card-skills), linked in the description above.
  • •This isn't AI slop for kids or a replacement for time together. It's automating the monotonous work so the evening is left for reading together. Same rule I'd apply at work.

Hey parents and Claude Code and Yoto player users! May your evenings be spent with your families and not with AI. And in the meantime, let the AI do mundane work for you.

So I wanted to record fairy tales for my kids on Yoto player cards. Yoto player is super easy to operate. Kids can turn it on and play the cards they want themselves.

So I downloaded some free fairy tales and I wanted to create Yoto cards from it. I wanted to cut each fairy tale into chapters of maximum 7 minutes and make the cuts exactly when there is moment of silence. To avoid clipping sound.

ffmpeg is a command line tool for audio and video editing and that's exactly what we need here and Claude Code will do the cuts for me. After that I need to create a playlist from all these files, add icons and numbers to all the chapters. This is very time consuming if to do it manually in Yoto official app.

But Claude Code will do it for me. It will run MYO Studio web app with browser harness, add all these tracks and icons according to fairy tale name or the content. I created a skill that does all of that, the link to it is in the comment.

I'm not saying let's throw AI slop at our kids as a replacement for quality time we could have together. No. But let's automate boring, monotonous work.

By the way, I think that's the same approach we need to use in our everyday job. Share in the comments how you use Claude Code in parenting.
